GOOD LUCK! Local 2018 Canadian Folk Music Award Nominees


It's great to see that the 2018 Canadian Folk Music Awards will feature a number of local artists. We're keeping our fingers crossed a few of them will bring home some CFMA's. The event takes place November 30 to December 1, 2018 at the Gateway in Alberta.

Hamilton is well-represented with Dana Sipos (English Songwriter of the Year)Annie Sumi (New/Emerging Artists of the Year) and Jeremy Fisher Junior (Children's Album of the Year).

    GOOD LUCK! Our Blogger and Founder Nominated for Maggie Award!

    We are proud to announce that Luis Pereira, our main blogger and founder, has been nominated for a 2018 Hamilton Independent Media Award (aka Maggie Award) for the Best Journalist- Arts & Culture category. Online voting has finished.

    Here's what Luis has to say:
    I am honoured to be nominated for this prestigious award and I'm in such wonderful company. Over 20 years after earning my Journalism diploma, it's great to get such recognition. I'm hoping many of you will vote and have your voices heard. Thank you!

    ​The HIMAs (AKA “The Maggies”) is committed to supporting the Hamilton community of independent journalists by hosting a yearly awards celebration. Through the awards the HIMAs seeks to promote critical independent journalism in the City of Hamilton and beyond.
    • Winners will be announced on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at a ceremony at the Hamilton Central Library (Hamilton Room). The event starts at 6pm. Everyone is welcome and it's free.
    • Winners receive a commemorative plaque and a monetary prize.

      Danny Michel's Space Van Season 5 Videos


      We here at the Hamilton Blues Lovers recently discovered that Waterloo singer/songwriter Danny Michel has a wonderful webcast series Dan's Space Van where he interviews amazing musicians in his vehicle.

      Season 6 recently started up so we're posting videos of the 5th season to catch you up. We'll be posting future episodes through our News Roundup series.

      CONGRATS! Waterloo's Shane Guse Wins Canadian Country Music Award + Complete Winners List

      Waterloo's Shane Guse (Western Swing Authority) has added another trophy to his shelf. He won the Special Instrument Player of the Year award (for his mandolin work) on September 9, 2018 at the Gala Award dinner of the 2018 Canadian Country Music Awards in Hamilton!

      The awards were a major success for Hammertown (so much that they are hosting it again in 2020).

      The big winner was host Shania Twain, who took home 4 awards.

      New Ensemble! Episode ft Corey Lueck and Dan Thomas


      The next new episode of Ensemble!, the Cable 14 TV show will be out soon. This latest one showcases the incredible Corey Lueck of the Smoke Wagon Blues Band and the explosive Dan Thomas (ex-Hammertones, 5-Star Revue). Backing the duo are Paul Panchezak of Trickbag on drums and Corey's Smoke Wagon bandmate Jason Colavecchia on the bass. This'll be quite the Blues extravaganza. Mark McNeil will be hosting this one as well.
