The new self-titled CD from local musicians, Pete Van Dyk and the Second Hand Band, is very hard to categorize. Luckily, the band deftly handles all of the musical moods with energy and skill.
Throughout the disc, one of the main constants is Pete's superb edgy voice (think a punkier Keith Richards). It adds a definite raw/emotional feel to the entire recording.
Country, folk, punk, rockabilly and more are explored by the boys with great panache. Highlights include the lead track Canadian Boy (it just oozes attitude), the catchy, mid-tempo Evangeline, and the extra-raw, infectious Cigarettes and Gasoline.
The CD is available at their show and also a download on bandcamp.com.
Below are a few video performance of the album tracks.
