- Recorded as a harmonica player and singer for the Harlem record label (1946)
- Joined the Muddy Waters band (1947)

- Worked briefly with Howling Wolf (1960's)
- First album (compilation of Chess recordings): Chicago Bound (1970)
- Inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame (1995)
- Passed away on December 19, 1997
