New John and Sheila Ludgate CD: Running Through the Innocent Years

Running Through the Innocent Years, the newest CD from local singer/songwriters John and Sheila Ludgate, is filled with warm and inviting songs.

It's almost like having some friends over and talking wistfully about the good and bad times. There's defintely a lyrical thread about life's many experiences.

Perhaps the affection comes from the album being a family affair with John and Sheila's sons playing on the disc. They do a great job adding depth to their parents' music. You can even hear cool effects on some of the songs (Never Too Late, Time's March).

The numbers run the gamut from countryish, catchy rhythms (Masquerade, Wasted Time) to solemn, thoughtful tunes (Fly Away, The Coming of Winter). This family handles the many moods well.

The CD is available at their live shows.

Check out one of their videos below.

New Andre Bisson CD: Beyond the Covers

If you've seen Andre Bisson's live shows with the J-Tones, you know what an amazing job they do with cover songs.

With Beyond the Covers, the latest CD, Andre decided to bring that power and energy to the studio. The sound is swinging, funky, soulful and really gets you dancing. Top that off with his unmistakable voice and you have yourself a great party album.

The band does a wonderful job with R&B classics such as Signed Sealed and Delivered, Pappa's Gotta Brand New Bag, Ain't Too Proud To Beg, and Soul Man. Adding soul and funk to two Beatles numbers - Hey Jude and Get Back - kicks things up a notch. As a bonus track, Andre also includes his unique version of Neil Young's Heart of Gold from his previous album.

You can pick up the CD at his great live shows or purchase/download them from CDbaby or iTunes.

Below is a sample from the CD and a few live performances of track from the disc.

Jack De Keyzer Plays on Harmonica Shah CD: Live at the Cove

Once again, Detroit Bluesman Harmonica Shah has enlisted the help of local guitar master Jack de Keyzer. This time, the two talent musicians join forces on the CD, Live at the Cove.

You can definitely hear why Shah has teamed up with Jack quite a few times. He does an amazing job playing the axe for the CD's raw, down and dirty blues sound. There's a lot of boogie, funk, and some old-fashioned soul. The band handles it all with panache.

The duo are backed by Canadians Alec Fraser (bass) and Al Cross (drums)

The disc is available in stores and as an iTunes download.

Below is a video from the show.

New Famous Framus Band CD: On Mortal Love

This ain't your daddy's Blues!

With On Mortal Love, the latest CD from the Famous Framus Band, the group unleashes and unique, edgy, powerful album.

It's a work of loud, rough, punk-like spirit that still manages to retain a traditional country/delta blues sound. Despite the rawness of it, the duo, which includes Famous Framus (vocals, guitar, banjo) and Dave Gould (drums, vocals) show off their great musical skills

It's not just fast numbers either. They also throw in some beautiful slower arrangements (Strange Dream, Girl With a Heart of Stone, Don't Throw Me Away) with a lot of emotion.

The disc is available at their dynamic live shows.

Below are a few live performances of songs from the disc

We'll be posting more from this show later.
