2024 Ontario Folk Music Award Nominees, Including Local Arists

Folk Music Ontario Announces the 2024 Ontario Folk Music Award Nominees!

The 30th annual Ontario Folk Music Awards will take place in Mississauga, Ontario on Sunday, October 6, 2024 following the Folk Music Ontario Conference.

Mississauga, ON - August 14 2024 - In recognition of the outstanding work and contributions of Folk artists and musicians from across the province of Ontario, Folk Music Ontario (FMO) is pleased to announce the nominees for the 2024 Ontario Folk Music Awards (formerly the 'Songs from the Heart Awards'). Now celebrating its 30th year, the annual award ceremony will take place as the final event of the Folk Music Ontario Conference at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, Ontario on Sunday, October 6, 2024 and will feature performances by a select number of nominated artists and special guests.

GOOD LUCK! First Annual Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Award Nominees

Nominees for the the first ever Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards have been unveiled and quite a few local artists are on the list. Hopefully, they'll be honoured at the online ceremony on June 12, 2021.

From the website: 

The SSIMAs will present awards representing a variety of music genres as well as awards for cultural contribution, significance, legacy and social voice. The award show itself will be two hours in length including the presentation of awards to the winners, as well as live performances from finalists throughout the evening.

Brantford/Six Nations singer songwriter Logan Staas has been catapulted to national superstardom after becoming the first winner of CTV's the Launch. He was one of 5 unsigned acts vying to record the song The Lucky Ones. His version can now be stream and purchased through iHeartRadio, Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify and Google Play.

This moment is still so surreal... and “The Lucky Ones” is still NUMBER ONE on the charts in Canada!

Winnipeg hosted this year's Indigenous Music Awards and three talented artists won at the ceremony on May 19, 2017! Brantford singer/songwriter Logan Staats won for Best Folk Album for his amazing recording  Goodbye Goldia. Six Nations Bluesman Derek Miller won Best Producer for his work on that album too. Fort Erie's DJ Shub also took home the Best Instrumental Album trophy.

The Indigenous Music Awards took a year off and now they are back in full force! As always, a number of amazing local artists got nods in a few categories.

Fort Erie's DJ Shub is up for three awards (Best Music Video, Best Radio Single and Best Instrumental Album). Brantford has two hometown boys in the running: Jace Martin (Best Pop Album) and Logan Staats (Best Folk Album, Music Video). Six Nations Blluesman Derek Miller is also nominated for Best Producer for his work on Logan's album, Goodbye Goldia.
