Kitty Wells' 100th Birthday

Today (August 30, 2019) would have been American Country trailblazer Kitty Wells' 100th birthday. She was the first female country singer to top the US country charts. Click here for her Wikipedia bio.

We asked a few local artists for their thoughts on the legendary songstress.

Lori Yates
Kitty Wells was the first female country singer to have a million selling number #1 hit. A true maverick, she paved the way for the rest of us.
Ginger St. James
The first lady of many things. From being the first female topping the billboard charts to the first female to headline a tour. This pioneer blazed a trail bright and hot enough for generations of songwriters to feel the impact and see her fire that still burns to this day.

Hamilton's Dave Waco Passes

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Hamilton musician, David Washnuk aka Dave Waco. Visitation and cremation have happened already. Our condolences to his family, friends and fans.

Here is the obituary:

WASHNUK, David (Dave Waco) It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dave Washnuk on August 13, 2019 in his 74th year. Loving father of Jason (Alison), Dave (Suzette), Tammi, Deneil, Shalena, and Rosie. Dear grandfather of two grandchildren. Survived by his brother Ed and sister Olivia. Will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Dave was a car enthusiast who loved organizing car shows at Hutch's and the Grimsby Welcome Centre. He was a musician who played in many bands and travelled around a lot entertaining people. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated by the family.
