Harrison Kennedy Wins Memphis, TN Solo Competition

Hamilton Blues legend, Harrison Kennedy won the best solo artist competition at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tenesse last weekend. Over 150 acts from around the world competed during the whole week.

Harrison's trip was sponsored by the good folks at the Canal Bank Blues Shuffle in Thorold. The win included a $1,500 cash prize and lots of US exposure.

Crowbar's "Oh, What a Feeling" To Be Inducted Into 2011 Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame

Oh, What a Feeling, the biggest hit for Hamilton legends, Crowbar will be inducted into the 2011 Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The song, written by singer/pianist Kelly Jay and bassist Roly Greenway, became on of the first major can-con era successes in 1971.

The special event itself will take place on April 2, 2011 at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. Robbie Robertson of the Band will also be inducted for his body of work.

Local Talent Nominated for Junos

A number of local musicians were nominated for the 2011 Juno Awards. This year, they'll be awarded on March 27.

The main category for local people seems to be Adult Alternative Album of the Year. Nominees include Daniel Lanois's band, Black Dub, Luke Doucet, and Sarah Harmer. They'll be up for the award along with Canadian legend Neil Young and Justin Nozuka. Lanois and Harmer are also up for the best producer award.
