Wonderful Weekly Brantford Matinee Series Helps our Soldiers (Videos by Dylan Wickens, Tim Gibbons, Mark Crissinger, Jack de Keyzer)


Now you can enjoy some incredible, rockin' Blues and help our brave soldiers at the same time.

Every Sunday from 2-5pm at the Brantford Gunners Club, the Howitzer Blues Band will be joined by a special guest to rock the place. The cost is only $5. Money raised goes to help veterans with PTSD or are homeless.

Newest Mark Crissinger Album Filled with Hamilton's Everyman Soul!


Hamilton's everyman soul has seeped into Night Light, the newest offering from BC Bluesman
Mark Crissinger.  Partly-recorded in Hammertown by Carl Jennings (Freedom Train) at Westmoreland Studio, the non-nonsense, meat and potatoes feel of the city is all over the album,

Mark and the gang have thrown in all types of Blues stylings: country, boogie woogie, soulful, rockin' and more to keep things very interesting. With down-to-earth, slice-of-life lyrics and well crafted songs, the album's of the highest calibre.

This is due to Mark's amazing vocal/guitar skills and his choice of a fabulous backing band; Bill Hicks of Powder Blues (drums), Jay Stevens (bass), Dan Dube of Renovation Blues Band (keys) and Marty Howe of The Martys (harmonica). Special guests on the project include Steve Hill (guitar), Pat Rush (slide guitar) , Jerome Godboo (harmonica) and Jeff Heisholt (organ).

GOOD LUCK! Local 2016 Maple Blues Award Nominees!


The the 20th annual Maple Blues Awards will be held at Koerner Hall in Toronto on January 23, 2016.  Once again, there are a number of local nominees.

Hamilton Blues legend Harrison Kennedy is up for two awards (male Vocalist, Acoustic Act and Hammertown's Jesse O'Brien recieved a nod for Keyboard Player of the Year.  Another Hamilton boy, Andre Bisson also got his first nomination (New Artist of the Year). Quebec's Mark Crissinger, a frequent visitor to the city (plus he records in Hamilton too) is also in the New Artist category.  Colin Cripps was nominated for his songwriting work with Paul Reddick.

Tom Bona (of Waterloo's Soulstack) is up for Drummer of the Year too.

          CONGRATS! Stingray Music's Best Blues Albums of 2015 Packed with Local Artists


          Canadian digital audio service, Stingray Music (formerly Galaxie) included quite a number of area acts in their Best Blues Album list for 2015.

          Albums by Hamiltonians Andre Bisson and Steve Strongman reached numbers 53 and 112 respectively.

          That's not all from Hammertown though: a number of recordings featuring work by Steve Strongman (w Roly Platt), Harrison Kennedy (w Eric Bibb), Tom Wilson (writing w Matt Anderson) and Jack de Keyzer (w Harmonica Shah) made the cut as well.  Mark Crissinger's Blues Expression, which was recorded in Hamilton, won the 88th spot.

          Niagara's Suzie Vinnick co-wrote with Matt Anderson for his Weightless album (#115) and Oakville boy Jordan John teamed up with Roly Platt for the Inside Out CD

          Trebleclef Reminds You to Please Help Local Charities

          Santa agrees with Trebleclef: Please help local charities this Christmastime
          As the holiday season approaches, there will be many incredible charity events to attend.  Please remember those less fortunate at this time of year.

          Trebleclef, our little monkey mascot, has been experiencing a number of such special occasions and he encourages everyone to attend a few as well.  It'll make ya feel good there's some amazing music sometimes.

          For example, there was Share the Warmth, a wonderful winter clothing drive that had a number of remarkable local musicians playing at Gallagher's in Hamilton.

          All winter clothing went to the Good Shepherd Centre.  Check them out if you'd like to donate or volunteer.

          Also, Elyse, the daughter of Hamilton musician Kevin MacLean, had a beautiful, unique  7th birthday celebration at Delta High School.  Instead of receiving gifts, the event was to collect toys for the Y108 Children's Fund.  There were tons of activities, food and even Santa popped by.  Great job Elyse - you should be proud.

          Crissinger's Incredible New CD is Made in Hamilton


          BC Bluesman, Mark Crissinger (now performing under just the name Crissinger), has always had an attachment to this area.  He's performed and recorded with many local artists and plays here  frequently.  His latest incredible CD, Blues Expression was partly recorded at Westmoreland Studios in Hamilton by Carl Jennings (Freedom Train).

          Mark can play classic Blues in many styles.  He can inject soul, rock, boogie into his sound .  This is good, old-fashioned meat and potatoes music without too many unnecessary  frills.

          Together with his band: Bill Hicks of Powder Blues Band (drums), Martyn Jones (bass), Marty Howe of the Marty's (harmonica) and Jeff Heisholt of the Trews (keys), he can serve up any flavour you're hungry for.

          Carl Jennings (Freedom Train) and Danny Lockwood on New Mark Crissinger EP: Terra Nova


          Nanaimo, BC Bluesman Mark Crissinger has made a habit of recording with top notch Hamilton musicians.  His latest wonderful EP, Terra Nova, is no exception.

          The talented Hammertown residents in question are Carl Jennings (Freedom Train) on bass and Danny Lockwood on drums.  Other guests on the recording include Jeff Heisholt (keys) and Konrad Comisso (drums).

          Together, they create infectious, soulful blues with amazing songwriting.  The sound goes beyond the usual12 bar format but still maintains roots in the classic blues form.

          This amazing EP can be downloaded through iTunes, eMusic and Reverbnation.
