On Saturday, October 26, Hamilton's Stonewalls Restaurant will be rocking to a good cause. From 12-6pm, a number of incredible steeltown artists will be performing to help help raise money for the Bob Pedler Memorial Fund. It's only $10 and you'll be guaranteed a great time!

From the event's press release:

It (the fund) raises money for the Local’s BOB PEDLER FUND which financially
aids Hamilton musicians who are unable to perform due to injury or ongoing health issues. The fund is named for the late BOB PEDLER, a popular musician and music store owner in the city and a former member of the executive board of the Hamilton Musicians’ Guild. Bob is also the father of the well- known Hamilton based drummer Jack Pedler (Teenage Head).

Also, during the event, the George R Robinson Award will be handed out to our friend and sponsor Judy Marsales and Dr. John Chong of the Hamilton Musicians’ Clinic. The award is given every year to individuals who have helped support local live music.

Michael Keys Passes

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of local singer/piano player Michael Keys, who recently lost his brave battle with cancer. We will post more information here as it comes. Our condolences to his family, friends and fans.

There was an outpouring of love for him on social media.  Here are a few quotes:

Karen Dowson (his daughter)

He didn’t want anyone to pity or treat him any differently so, that’s why many of you didn’t know he had been fighting stage 4 lung cancer for the past 4 & 1/2 years now. He was a fighter and stubborn but, he went peacefully and I heard the nurses were playing his music until the end. I love that!

Corey Lueck (Smoke Wagon Blues Band)

Very sad news, Mr. Keys was a great musical friend. I will certainly miss our times on stage and his weekend calls to chat about the state of the local music scene. He was a great advocator for making sure up and coming bands were part of the festival scene in Burlington Ontario, and he fought the city on it on many occasions. He use to book us for shows in the early days including The Burlington Rib Fest and we sure appreciated it. Was there anyone who loved to play more then Michael Keys ? RIP my musical friend

Russel McAllister (Hamilton Bucket List Band)

He was a fine musician and was always pushing for more work and better money. His last few years were spent in and out of Juravinski Hospital for Chemo and other torturous undertakings. He fought this horrible disease with class and dignity. His demeanor through this ordeal was amazing. He pulled no punches and was persistant in promoting our Good Friday Jam that he has been part of for over 10 years. I'll miss his Boogie style and left hand attack on the keyboard. Thank you Ron Russell for notifying me of this loss. My heartfelt condolences to Mike's wife Genny and the rest of their family. Rest well, Mike.

Eric Bower (bandmate)

He knew the music business as well as he knew his keyboard and fought hard for the betterment of musicians AND never shied away from providing valuable business advise to operators and promoters. Sure, we can debate and disagree on the way he delivered that message but there was nothing wrong with the message!

I had the honour of meeting Michael quite a few times and was always impressed by his musical skill and dedication. I will miss him greatly.

New Album from Hamilton's George Lardie Has Inviting Vibe

Wheels of Life, the latest  exquisite CD from Hamilton's George Lardie is an album for the everyman (or everywoman). Filled with down-to-earth, hook-laden songs, the recording has an inviting vibe that welcomes you in for a spell.

Just like life itself, the CD takes you through love, loss, enjoying the little things that make life enjoyable and much more.  George's lyrics can really tell a story and create a feeling. The melodic and infectious music also offers guidance throughout the emotional part of the journey.

Joining George in this rhythmic expedition is Robert Nind, Carm Milioto (Live How You Live), Olivia Brown and various members of the Hamilton Bucket List Band.  Together, they have created quite a delightful slice of life.

Hamilton's Bucket List Debut with Dynamic, Swinging, Horn-Filled Blues!

Rumrunner the incredible debut from Hamilton's Bucket List has something old, something new, something borrowed and is all Blues.  A phenomenal mix of cover and originals, the CD has energy and swing to spare.

It all kicks off with the new: three amazing original tracks about Hamilton history.  The band jump and jives through well-told stories about Hammertown gangster Rocco Perri, the infamous Evelyn Dick and an early Hamilton music joint.

The lively history lesson continues as the guys borrow the Chuck Berry classic, Johnny B. Goode, adapt it to a Reggae beat and make it about Hamilton.  Four boisterous covers from such luminaries as Albert Collins, Stevie Wonder and more, end off the recording.

The entire album is packed with dynamic, swinging, horn-filled Blues.  It was made for dancing!

Hamilton Blues Greats to Shake and Groove at the Jet Hall!

For the past few months, our friends at BluesSource Entertainment have been supplying the Jet Hall in Hamilton with some incredible Blues bands. Frank Cosentino, Wicked Grin, Joel Johnson, Soulstack, Irene Torres, the Mighty Duck Blues Band and others have been shakin' and groovin' the venue.

For the next little while, Hammertown Bluesmakers will be hitting the Jet Hall stage and rockin' their hometown.

Here are few videos of these upcoming Hamilton performers.  Be sure to check them out - you won't regret it.  There'll be dancing, wonderful drinks, tasty food and explosive music!
