GOOD LUCK! Local 2019 Juno Nominees

Whether it's Rock, Blues, Classical, Country or any other genre, Hamilton (and the surrounding areas) are well represented in the 2019 Juno nominees list. On March 16-17, 2019 in London, the awards will be handed out and hopefully a few of our local musical heroes will bring home some hardware.

The Rock Album of the Year category alone has three Hammertown bands: The Arkells, Monster Truck and The Trews. The Arkells are also up for Group of the Year, Producer of the Year and Album Artwork of the Year.

CONGRATS! 2016 International Blues Challenge Winners!

The 2016 International Blues Challenge wrapped up in Memphis  on January 30, 2016. Unfortunately, none of the local performers won but they did an amazing job.  A few Canadian acts did have an impressive showing.  Montreal's Paul DesLauriers Band achieved second in the band competition.  Debra Power from Calgary and Edmonton's Graham Guest reached the semi-finals.  CONGRATS EVERYONE!

Quote from Paul's media release: “We are honoured to have had the opportunity to take our music to the international stage and represent Canada, Quebec and the Montreal Blues Society at the IBC in Memphis After an exhilarating week surrounded by so many wonderful musicians and blues lovers, we’re positively thrilled at having made it to the podium and grateful to The Blues Foundation for hosting such and incredible event.”

Hamilton's Alfie Smith and Nicole Christian Team Up For a Stunning Album

With Come On In My Kitchen, their first album as a duo, Hamilton couple Alfie Smith and Nicole Christian prove they mesh extremely well as a musical team.  This Busted Flat release is a must-have for any folk blues aficionados.

Alfie's gritty blues growl and Nicole's sweet voice give the disc a wonderful contrast, especially when the two sing in harmony. They even switch it up with Nicole adding an edge to her vocals on a few tracks and Alfie showing his softer side on others.  Of course, this is on top of the stunning guitar and flute work from the talented pair. The only other performer on the album is Nick Burson, who contributes some tasty percussion.

Listeners get the best of both worlds with this mix of classics (the title track, Cakewalk into Town, You Are My Sunchsine, Hound Dog, Iko Iko) and marvelous original songs.

You can pick up a physical CD at their outstanding live shows or through the Busted Flat website (it can be downloaded here too).  Downloads can also be purchased via cdbaby or iTunes.
