For Woodstock singer/songwriter, George C.W. Douglas his debut album, Music From Big Muddy has been part of a personal journey. From local music fan, to becoming a musician, earning his sobriety and taking the Creative Genius Songwriting Workshop with Lori Yates - you can feel the experiences on the CD.
George has made quite an initial splash with this amazing offering. He's created a personal, revealing, witty, everyman folk album. Lyrics deal with aging, drinking and the effects of time. The recording finishes off nicely with a beautiful ode to Willie P. Bennett.
Wonderfully backing him up are fellow multi-instrumentalists Brock Zeman and Blair Hogan along with Dylan Roberts (drums, percussion). They do a fabulous job.
On his last album, Outta the Jam, local guitar slinger Dan Walsh tried his hand at doing lead vocals. He did an amazing job then and he does an even better one on Lewp, his newest recording. The singer/songwriter's already sizable guitar prowess is back too.
Dan handles everything from country, southern rock, funk and more. Including a wonderful cover of former bandmate Willie P, Bennett's One Vessel is a nice touch as well. The songs are full of heart, electricity and tons of guitar acrobatics and effects.
Supergroup, Blackie and the Rodeo Kingsonce again show the world why they're one of the leaders in the folk rock arena. Their recent CD, Southboasts some of their best work and that's saying a lot.
Consisting of a core trio (Hamilton's Tom Wilson, Colin Lindenand Stephen Fearing), the band have created a stunning album. The music runs the gamut from acoustic ballads to toe tapping rockin' country.
This fabulous trio is backed by the top notch rhythm section of Johnny Dymond on bass and Gary Craig on drums. Harlan Peppereven join in on the fun offering their vocal harmonies.
With the exception of one track, an amazing cover of Willie P. Bennett's Driftin' Snow, the rest of the album is all original. Not bad for a band that started with a one-off Willie P covers album.

Late last year, local singer/songwriter Paul O'Toole released "mistakes included", an astounding sonic journey.
The majority of the album is filled with slow and mid-tempo songs that reveal his vocal power and incredible guitar stylings. There's a lot of raw emotion to the performances, which are enhanced by Paul's exquisite songwriting.
"mistakes included" is also home to some higher octane numbers like Point of View and the wonderfully-titled Creepy Coated Love Song (great rockabilly tune!).
