The Lowdown Dirty Mojos Take You Thru Salvation & Sin On 'Lucky 7'

Mini-Review: Lucky 7, the high-octane album from Hamilton's Lowdown Dirty Mojos is not your typical covers collection. These ain't the same songs you've heard a million times - they're revved up versions of  hidden gems from the likes of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Mavis Staples, Huey Piano Smith, The Velvet Underground, Barbra Lynn as well as Ike & Tina Turner. These tracks'll take you on a wonderful, soulful journey through salvation and sin.

Available: Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, Their Live Shows (CD)

Grit and Dirt Just Ooze from The Vaudevillian's New Album

The Vaudevillian may be originally from Kitchener but are now Hamilton-based.  The group's music is a perfect match for the former Steeltown as grit and dirt just ooze from these songs. This is as no-nonsense and raw as it gets.

The latest offering, Barton Street Blues is filled with references to Hammertown and is sung with abandon. Featuring an old-timey sound that will transport you back in time, the disc also possesses a powerful, punk-like attitude.

Vaudevillian mainstays Brendan J Stephens (vocals/multiple instruments) and Willow Walker (vocals/washboard/banjo) are joined by Guy Johnson (bass), Minnie Heart of the Ever Lovin' Jug Band (fiddle), Danny Edmonds of Harlan Pepper (vocals/banjo/Producer), Mimi Shaw (vocals) and Aaron on sax.

You can pick up this CD at their live shows or download it via Bandcamp.

Hamilton's Mimi Shaw Delivers Great Rockabilly and Alt-Country

People say they don't make 'em like they used to but Hamilton country gal Mimi Shaw has proven them wrong.  Her debut EP, Niagara, is brimming with good, old-fashioned Americana music injected with modern energy.

With an amazing voice that's just perfect for country, you'll find a lot to love on her EP. Top-notch backing musicians capable of rocking out and tugging at your heart strings doesn't hurt either.

Mimi teamed up with the late, great Brian Griffith, as well as John Lewis, Lisa Winn, Clark Johnston, Sean O’Grady, Tone Valcic, and Thompson Wilson (Harlan Pepper) to make this sensational recording.  Alt-country superstar Lori Yates also co-wrote two of the great tracks.

You can pick up a CD at one of her incredible live shows or download it via her online shop.  There are also copies available at Pick N Sticks.

Hamilton's The Folk Sinners Debut Serves Up Kickin' Country Gumbo

Hamilton band The Folk Sinners have cooked quite a musical gumbo with Move That Rock, their kickin' debut album.  When their music's playing you'll be guaranteed a good ol' time.

The gang takes some old-fashioned Country goodness and spice it up with some Zydeco, latin rhythms and a dashes o' funk n' soul.  You'll find some songs of love, heartache and salvation to strike your fancy.

You'll find the Harlan Pepper boys hangin' around the Sinners on the disc as well. Dave Rave, Tom Wilson, Tim Gibbons, Ed Roth, and Mimi Shaw also join in the jamboree.  Everything is superbly co-produced by Michael J Birthelmer and Dan Edmonds (Harlan Pepper).

Pick up a copy at one of their rockin' shows or head on down to Picks N Sticks.  You can also download it through iTunes.
