CONGRATS! Canadian (incl Local) Musicians Win 2019 International Songwriting Competition!


The 2019 International Songwriting Competition closed recently and quite a few Canadians, including some local artists, got accolades for their fabulous work.

GOOD LUCK! Local Country Music Association of Ontario Award Nominees


Local Country stars are in the spotlight thanks to the Country Music Association of Ontario Awards Nominations that were recently unveiled. The ceremony itself will be held in Ottawa on June 16, 2019. Hopefully a number of our area talent will bring home the hardware.

Hamilton is represented by popular group the Redhill Valleys. They were nominated for Group or Duo of the Year as well as Roots Group or Duo of the Year. 

Also from the Hammer, Brad James is up for the Rising Star award.

Burlington's Tebey is up for 5 awards (Single of the Year, Album of the Year, 2 songwriting nods, Male Artist of the Year and Fan's Choice).

Another Burlingtonian, Tianna Woods was nominated for Female Artist of the Year and her record producer is in the running for an award as well.

St. Catharines superstar Tim Hicks will also get a chance to his already impressive list of trophies. He was nominated for 6 awards (Single of the YearAlbum of the Year, Songwriter of the YearMale Artist of the YearFan's Choice and Music Video of the Year).

Another nominee from the Niagara region, Ryan Langdon is also up for the Rising Star category and his record producer was nominated for an award too.

Welland's CKYY Country 89FM was nominated for Radio Station of the Year (Small Market) as well.

Waterloo's The Western Swing Authority are also up for Roots Group or Duo of the Year and their producer/band-member, Jason Barry is up for Record Producer of the Year.

Cambridge group, The Reklaws earned 5 nods (Single of the YearAlbum of the YearSongwriters of the YearGroup or Duo of the Year and Fan's Choice)

As for the Woodstock area, country station CKDK 104FM is in the running for Radio Station of the Year (Large Market)

          GOOD LUCK! Local Finalists in the 2017 International Songwriting Competition. Vote! Deadline is April 3


          Soon, a number of local artists will be judged by Tom Waits, Perry Ferrell (Jane's Addiction), Lorde, Ziggy MarleyTommy Chong, Walter Trout, Booker T Jones and more in the 2017 International Songwriting Competition. They'll choose the top three in each genre category.

          There's also People's Voice award in almost every category that's voted on by the public so here's your change to help out some area artists. Deadline is April 3, 2018.

          CONGRATS! Local 2016 Canadian Folk Music Award Winners!



          On December 3, 2016 the 12th Annual Canadian Folk Music Awards were handed out to a number of amazing artists. Vineland's own David Gillis took home the Producer of the Year award for his work on new Hamiltonian Corin Raymond's latest album, Hobo Jungle Fever Dreams.

          David had the folowing to say on his Facebook page: "I want everyone to know I never could have won "The CFMA, Producer of the Year" award without Corin Raymond's great songs, his relentless pursuit of perfection and his authenticity as an artist!"

            GOOD LUCK! Local Canadian Folk Music Award Nominees!



            When the 12th Annual Canadian Folk Music Awards come to Toronto in December 2016, there'll be some local artists up for some trophies.

            There are quite a few Hamiltonians (both old and new) nominated this year.  Ben Caplan (New/Emerging Artist), Whitehorse (Pushing the Boundaires, Ensemble)Matthew Barber and Jill Barber (Producers), Corin Raymond (Contemporary Album) and David Gillis (Producer - for his work with Corin). Waterloo's Danny Michel is up for the English Songwriter and Contemporary Singer categories as well.

              GOOD LUCK! Local Artists on Polaris Long List


              The renowned Polaris Music Prize has unveiled their Long List of Canadian Albums for 2016 and quite a few local musicians are on it! 

              Hamilton electronic music-makers Junior Boys and Jessy Lanza grace the list. 
              The announcement of the Short List (which will whittle the long one to just the top ten) will be on July 14, 2016.  The prize winner will be awarded at the Polaris Gala (September 19, 2016 at The Carlu in Toronto).

              The top candidate will earn $50,000 and the rest of the Short List will receive $3,000.
