News Roundup (Remembering Rick Bissell, Timid the Brave, Arkells, More)

Former Simply Saucer Manager Rick Bissell Passes

Facebook comments from Edgar Breau (Simply Saucer)
Rick was the 'discoverer' of Simply Saucer in 1974, our first manager. He set up the Master Sound studio sessions with the Lanois Brothers that ultimately became side one of Cyborgs Revisited. Husband of his beloved and beautiful Monique, father of Shawn.
Originally from Montreal, Rick came to Hamilton and set up one of the first import record stores here, Hermandad Records in the Lister Block in the early 1970's. Some of you record collectors out there will remember the cool imports you could buy at the store. He was a communications consultant for Bell and AT&T, brought his family with him to Saudia Arabia for a time where he did consulting work there.
Well there's much more to tell about our friend but tonight's the time to mourn the passing of our cherished friend, Rick. May he rest in peace.

'No Boundaries" by Milton's Steve Rivers is Dripping With Energy

No Boundaries, the sophomore release from Milton singer/songwriter Steve Rivers is just dripping over with energy.  This is a modern country album with some major power behind it.

The current Nashville resident knows how to hook you into a song and then get your adrenaline going.  Catchy choruses and infectious guitars riffs attack from all sides and it's glorious.  Steve can also handle the occasional slow number with grace.

This high octane album is available for download on iTunes.

Country Music Association of Ontario Award Winners 2013

The local area was well-represented when the nominations for the 2013 Country Music Association of Ontario Awards came around. Burlington's Tebey received 3 nominations (Male Artist, Single and Songwriter). Another Burlington boy, Billy J. White was also up for Male Artist.  Rob Kirkham & Neon Rain got a nod for Group Or Duo. Steve Rivers was in the running for Rising Star.  Hamilton's CHKX – KX 94.7 was even up for Radio Station of the Year.

Unfortunately, none of them got to take home any hardware during the May 27 ceremony in Markham.

Below is a complete list of winners.
