GOOD LUCK! Local Artists on Top 100 Searchlight List! VOTE!


CBC's Annual Searchlight competition recently whittled down the thousands of entries to pick the top 100 (50 that are chosen by public vote and the other half judged by CBC Music). Local communities have a few area musicians on the list.

The top 10 will be chosen by March 8, 2018 and the winner will be announced on March 19, 2018. Click here to vote for the top ten.

GOOD LUCK! Local Artists on Searchlight Top 25

We are one step close to knowing who this year's winner of the CBC Searchlight competition. The panel chose an act from each of the 23 regions. Also, the two acts with the most popular votes are added to round out the top 25 list.

Hamilton singer/songwriter Emma VanDyk won her city's category and LoFi Mind was chosen as the representative for Kitchener-Waterloo. The winner will be revealed soon.

GOOD LUCK! Local CBC Searchlight Top 10!


With more than 2,000 acts entered, the regional top 10s have been chosen for 2017 CBC Searchlight competition. Phil McCarty won the popular vote for the Hamilton region and LoFi Mind earned it for Kitchener-Waterloo.

Winners from each of the 23 regions (chosen by a panel) will be unveiled on Tuesday, March 14 and will move to the next round. The two acts with the most number of votes will automatically advance as well.

                      GOOD LUCK! Area Artists are CBC Searchlight Finalists


                      After many votes (for over 3000, champions have been crowned for the regional portion of the CBC Searchlight contest.  23 winners (including two from our area) will move on to the nationals to compete for the Best New Artist award.  You can help by voting until May 4, 2015.  The winner will be announced on q on CBC Radio on Friday, May 15. The grand prize is $20,000 worth of band gear from Yamaha Canada Music and a gig at the CBC Music Festival in Toronto.

                      The Hamilton regional champ is Burlington country duo Skinner for their song 2nd and Broadway. Click here for the CBC Story.



                      For the Kitchener-Waterloo Region, Listowel folkster Kyle Boyne took top honors for his tune Misguided Soul. Click here for the SouthwesternOntario.ca Story
