Throwback Thursday: Melissa Bel Debut Album + EP (2009)

Original Post: September 15, 2009 & July 19, 2009

Updated Post: July 16, 2026

Melissa Bel Debut: Brave

In September 2009, Burlington's Melissa Bel released her debut album, Brave.

Melissa's incredible, smooth voice is used to great effect as she travels through blues, pop, soul, rock, and folk with ease.

Special notes:
  • All online versions of the album do not contain the song You Don't Fool Me, which was on the CD
  • The CD of the album is now hard to find
Available on: Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music

-----------

Melissa Bel: Self Titled EP

There's a little bit of everything on this EP. Bluesier numbers such as Distance (co-written with Ray Lyell) and He'll Never be You share the spotlight with soulful pop-folk gems like We All Lose Our Way, I Hate to Say it and Tragedy in Disguise. Melissa ends this amazing collection with a smooth version of Smokey Robinson's You've Really Got a Hold On Me.

Personnel (highlights):
Special notes:
  • Songs from this EP that also appeared on the album Brave were remixed, remastered or rerecorded for the later recording
  • You've Really Got a Hold On Me is the only song from the EP that wasn't on also on her debut album.
  • The EP is not available online
  • The CD is hard to find.

Burlington's Melissa Bel Creates Soulful, Powerful Pop on Latest Album

Burlington songstress Melissa Bel embraces her inner pop diva on her latest album, In the Light.  Unlike other similar artists, she's not sacrificing soul and melody to do so.  It's an amazing, tasty blend of modern sounds with old-fashioned goodness stirred in.

Her voice takes charge of every single song and imbues it with soul, power, fragility or whatever else it needs.  Melissa takes on many vocal roles and does an incredible job with all of them.  The result is a fabulous album with a surprise on every track.

You can pick the CD up at her rare live shows (she spend a lot of time in the UK now) or via her online shop. It can also be downloaded through iTunes and eMusic.

Dundas's Frank Koren Launches Singer/Songwriter Career With Amazing CD!

Not only is Dundas's Frank Koren one of the most popular and in-demand guitarists around but he's now taken the big leap to becoming a singer/songwriter in his own right. Red Chair marks Frank's recording debut as a lead vocalist and he's simply amazing.

With a newly-discovered voice filled with character and soul, Frank meshes perfectly with the rockin' Folk/Americana sound on most of the album.  The band also gets wonderfully experimental with guitar effects and beats near the end of the disc (including some beatboxing from Hachey the MouthPeace).  The whole recording is folky, funky and free-spirited.

Many of Frank's talented musical friends have joined in helping him launch his debut CD.  They include his family (daughter Marrakech and wife Kim Koren,) along with Mark McIntyre, Ed Mortenson, Amy King, Nick Czarnogorski, Jake Payne, Melissa Bel, Harrison Kennedy, Paul Inston, Glenn Milchem (Blue Rodeo), Greg Brisco, Bob Doidge, Danny Lockwood, Aaron Goldstein, Andy Gingerich, Vince Rinalldo, and Donnie McDougall.

This incredible CD will be released soon in many local stores and online as well (check back on this page for more information).  You can also get a copy at his CD Release Party at the Casbah on November 14th.
