jacksoul's Greatest Hits A Wonderful Tribute to Hamilton's Haydain Neale


Sony Music Canada recently unveiled a Greatest Hits compilation for jacksoul, the fabulous band with the late Hamilton soulman Haydain Neale on vocals  The entire compilation is a wonderful testament to the talent and brilliance of Haydain.

The boys in jacksoul always blended old fashioned soul with modern pop R&B (and a dash of hip-hop) to create a smooth, catchy, sound.  The highlight was Haydain's unique, expressive voice that could handle anything.  These remastered tracks exemplify the band's storied career.

Longtime fans will be interested in the three excellent unreleased tracks, Got to Have It, Whole Day and Spiralling.  They're all welcome additions to the group's canon of superb songs.

This incredible CD should be available at many physical and online music stores.  It can be downloaded through iTunes as well.

GOOD LUCK! Tons of Local Artists Nominated for 2015 Junos


Not only will the Junos be held in Hamilton this year but many Steeltown musicians are up for nods at the illustrious awards show.  Even the surrounding area is well-represented.

From the Hammer, we have Steve Strongman (Blues Album), Daniel Lanois (Instrumental Album), Diana Panton (Vocal Jazz Album) and Jeremy Fisher (Adult Alternative Album).  Bands with a few Hamilton members were also up for awards such as jacksoul (R and B/Soul Recording) plus Blackie and the Rodeo Kings and Elliott BROOD, who are both in the running for Roots and Traditional Album: group.

Other area nominees include Kitchener's Alysha Brilla (Adult Contemporary Album) and Dallas Green (aka City and Colour) for You+Me, his collaboration with P!nk. The latter is up for a Fans Choice and Group Juno awards.

Local Musicians on 1st Half of CBC's Greatest Canadian Albums List


CBC Music recently started compiling a list of the 100 Greatest Canadian Albums Ever.  Already, their website has revealed numbers 40 to 100 and 4 of those are of area musicians.  We hope there'll be more local choices as we get to the number one spot.

Local Performers Bring Home the Junos


Jack deKeyzer, the Arkells, Jacksoul, and other local musicians made their hometown proud as they brought home a Juno.

DeKeyzer's recorded in Hamilton Live CD, The Corktown Sessions beat out albums from Downchild, Carlos Del Junco, and Colin Linden for Blues Album of the Year. In a Spectator interview, the singer/guitarist said it was only after attending his son's classical guitar performance that he read the news on web.

Rock band the Arkells won for New Group of the Year and the late Haydain Neale's band, Jacksoul, took R&B/Soul recording of the year. Other local winners include Hamilton's Marjan Mozetich (Classical Composition) and Burlington's Adrianne Pieczonka (Vocal and Choral Performance).
