GOOD LUCK! Lots of Local 2018 Juno Nominees!


There are a ton of local nominees at this year's Juno Awards. We are all proud of our are musicians.

Just in Hamilton alsone, we have the Arkells (3 nods + 1 for their producer), Steve Strongman (Blues Album of the Year), Terra Lightfoot (2 +1 for her engineer), Whitehorse (1 + 1 for their engineer), Brad Cheeseman (Jazz Album of the Year, Solo), David Braid (Jazz Album of the Year, Group) and Iskwé (Indigenous Music Album of the Year). Also, Waterdown's True North Records released two nominated albums by Bruce Cockburn and Buffy Sainte-Marie.

As for Burlington, there's Walk Off The Earth (Fan's Choice). Also, Bruno Mars: 24K Magic, an album Engineered by Charles Moniz is in the running for International Album of the Year. He recently won a Grammy for his work.

News Roundup (The Haunted, Greg Moverley, Passings, Trebleclef)


Trebleclef attended the monthly Open Mic at the Copper Kettle in Waterdown. Gillian Nicola is the talented host of this wonderful event!

Our little monkey also saw his very first Fred Eaglesmith Show starring Tif Ginn at the Studio in Hamilton.  He had a blast!

CONGRATS! Kitchener's Janice Jo Lee Wins 2015 Oktoberfest Woman of The Year Award (Arts and Culture)


Talented Kitchener singer/songwriter and poet, Janice Jo Lee has won the in the Arts and Culture category of the 2015 KW Oktoberfest Woman of The Year Awards.  She received the honour at a ceremony held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Bingemans in Kitchener.  The event celebrates the wonderful achievements of women living and working in Waterloo Region.  Janice is in good company - last year's winner was songstress Alysha Brilla.

GOOD LUCK! Local Musicians Up For International Songwriting Competition



We all know there's world-class music in our own backyard but now the world is aware too thanks to the prestigious International Songwriting Competition.  After thousands of submissions, many deserving local musicians were chosen as semi-finalists.

Kitchener's Alysha Brilla has her song Immigrant in two categories: Unsigned and Lyrics. JD Yanik, also from Kitchener, is up for best Latin tune with Ganas De Tí

Brantford's Benjamin Rogers was listed for three tracks: Pendulum (Instrumental), Move Ben Move (Teen) and Wayfarer (Teen).

Cambridge boy (who now resides in Kitchener) Robbie Hancock has his song, Into The Bright (co-written by Andy Gabrys) in the running for the folk category.

Dundas songstress, Maggie Szabo has two songs in the Pop/Top 40 category: Tragedy (co-written by w Lee Miles) plus Tidal Waves And Hurricanes (co-written by Andrew Allen)

Lastly, we have Oakville's Natalie TomYew, for the tune Take .e. (Dance category).

Other semi-finalists of note include Raoul and The Big Time, Al Lerman of Fathead, Ali Matthews and Brock Zeman.

Judges for the competition include Pat Metheny, Sarah McLachlan, John Hiatt, Robben Ford, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jon Secada, Bela Fleck, James Cotton and more.

GOOD LUCK! Tons of Local Artists Nominated for 2015 Junos


Not only will the Junos be held in Hamilton this year but many Steeltown musicians are up for nods at the illustrious awards show.  Even the surrounding area is well-represented.

From the Hammer, we have Steve Strongman (Blues Album), Daniel Lanois (Instrumental Album), Diana Panton (Vocal Jazz Album) and Jeremy Fisher (Adult Alternative Album).  Bands with a few Hamilton members were also up for awards such as jacksoul (R and B/Soul Recording) plus Blackie and the Rodeo Kings and Elliott BROOD, who are both in the running for Roots and Traditional Album: group.

Other area nominees include Kitchener's Alysha Brilla (Adult Contemporary Album) and Dallas Green (aka City and Colour) for You+Me, his collaboration with P!nk. The latter is up for a Fans Choice and Group Juno awards.
