        The City of Hamilton Arts Awards celebrates the local creative community on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at The Scottish Rite Club.  As always, music is an integral part of the ceremony and a number of talented area musicians have been nominated

        GOOD LUCK! Tons of Local CMAO Award Nominations!


        Wow! Almost every single category in the 2016 Country Music Association of Ontario Awards boasts one or more local nominees.  Hamilton, Burlington, Milton, St. Catharines and Waterloo are beaming with pride as their talented hometown boy and girls received much-deserved recognition.

        Steel town country station KX 94.7 FM is up for Radio Station (Major Market) of the Year.

        Just a ways down the road, Burlington's Tebey leads the pack with a whopping 6 nominations (Single, Songwriter, Male Artist, Fan's Choice, Music Video, Producer).  Also from Burlington, Tianna Woods is up for three awards (Single, Album, Female Artist).  Her producer, Rick Hutt has also been nominated for Record Producer of the Year).

        Then there's St. Catherines superstars Tim Hicks (Album, Male Artist, Fan's Choice, Music Video) and Marshall Dane (Male Artist). Rounding out the list is  The Western Swing Authority from Waterloo (Songwriter, Group, Roots Artist, Producer) and Woodstock's Country 104 FM (Radio Station - Major Market).

                                    Dan Walsh Honours JJ Cale's Legacy With Amazing Tribute CD!


                                    Dan Walsh has been a fan of the late, legendary JJ Cale for years.  To honour him, the locsal guitar slinger has released JJ, an amazing tribute album.

                                    Dan said: "He was and is my biggest musical influence. Without him, I would not be doing what I do today. For the past few years I’ve wanted to record a tribute to him, and the planets finally lined up this year. This collection of songs was recorded 'live off the floor' directly to 2” tape. 4 people playing music together in a beautiful room. No headphones. The only overdubs are the shakers and tambourines and a few sparse rhythm guitar parts."

                                    The band do a spectacular job of capturing JJ's spirit while keeping their own style.  It's bluesy, swampy, funky and never ceases to impress.

                                    Dan (who handles vocals and guitar) is joined by an incredible line-up that includes Ian “Ike” Richardson on bass, Ricky Neu on drums and Ryan Morrison on keys.  Together, they do justice to JJ's legacy.

                                    CONGRATS! Burlington's Walk Off the Earth Earn 'Group of the Year' Juno!


                                    Burlington rockers, Walk Off The Earth made their hometown proud by bringing home the Group of the Year trophy at the 2016 Junos on April 3, 2016. It was the band's first Juno win!  They joined the winner's circle with local stars Harrison Kennedy and Whitehorse, who won during Saturday's Juno gala.

                                    The year's biggest winner was Toronto R&B sensation, the Weeknd, who earned five awards: Artist, Album, Songwriter, Soul/R&B, Single (for Can't Feel My Face).  Other multiple winners included the legendary Buffy Sainte-Marie (Aboriginal Album, Contemporary Roots Recording) and pop star Justin Bieber (Pop Album, Fan Choice).

                                    CONGRATS! Harrison Kennedy and Whitehorse Win Early 2016 Junos


                                    After 6 nominations, Hamilton Blues legend Harrison Kennedy has finally won his first Juno (Blues Album of the Year) thanks to his latest amazing recording This is From Here.  He made the Hammer proud on April 2, 2016 at a music industry gala ceremony in Calgary.

                                    Hamilton/Burlington/Toronto folk rock duo, Whitehorse also took home the statue for Adult Alternative Album of the Year for their explosive Leave No Bridge Unburned CD.  This album's been collecting awards and nominations (as well as spots on best of 2015 lists) for a while.

                                    TREBLECLEF COMING TO A THEATRE NEAR YOU!

                                    Although they'll always have a passion for music blogging, the Hamilton Blues Lovers have now set their sights on a new challenge: movie production. These ambitious plans include Trebleclef, their beloved monkey mascot.

                                    We caught up with HBL CEO Lou at one of his many mansions, where we asked him about how it all started.

                                    “I was sailing in my yacht, hanging with Steven Spielberg”, he explained humbly. When Lou introduced him to Trebleclef, the famous director was immediately enamored with his acting skills.

                                    "Steven begged him to star in his films," he added, "but being a loyal little monkey, he checked with me first. That's when the idea popped into my head. I decided to use my vast wealth to start my own movie production company with Treble as my main star. His acting range is so incredible that I started the ball rolling on all types of films: sci-fi, action, drama and even romance.”

                                    Lou also decided to use this project as a way to cast people involved in the local music scene in many important parts. Dave Rave, Wendell Ferguson, Donna Panchezak (of Trickbag), Kevin Barber, and Tomi Swick have all signed on.
