COVID-19 couldn't stop the 2020 Canadian Folk Music Awards as it was streamed live on Saturday, April 4, 2020. See below for the announcements.

The only local connection among the winners was Nova Scotia singer/songwriter Matt Andersen, who won the Contemporary Singer of the Year award for his work on on Halfway Home By Morning, an album released by Waterdown's True North Records.

CONGRATS! Hamilton-Born Ben Caplan Wins Songwriter of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards

Hamilton-born musician Ben Caplan is making quite a habit of winning The East Coast Music Awards. On April 27, he earned another one  - this time for Songwriter of the Year.

Here is what he had to say on social media: "Wow! I am honoured to have just won the East Coast Music Association (ECMA) Award for Songwriter of the Year! I am grateful for this recognition from my community! Thank you!"

The kudos were handed out in Ottawa at the end of November. Matt Andersen whose current album, Weightless features co-writes from Hamilton's Tom Wilson and Niagara's Suzie Vinnick got the nod for Contemporary Singer of the Year.

Canadian Folk Music Awards Nominate Many Local Artists

Musicians throughout our area were honoured with nominations from the 2014 Canadian Folk Music Awards.  Gathering, the latest CD from Hamilton's Poor Angus is up for Traditional Album of the Year.  Former Hamiltonian Matthew Barber is in the running for both Solo Artist and Contemporary Singer. Another former resident of Hammertown, Luke Doucet received a Producer nod for his work with his duo, Whitehorse.
