The 2021 Canadian Country Music Awards were held on November 28-29 at a wonderful televised event in London, Ontario. Cambridge's The Reklawstook home two trophies. CONGRATS!
Unfortunately, no local artists won the 2020 CCMA Awards. Nevertheless, Canada's incredible Country music scene received a great online gala on September 27.
Alberta's Brett Kissel was the big winner with 4 awards to his name.
Ben Knechtel, their video director also earned some hardware (Video Director of the Year). He also directed The Worst Kind, featuring St. Catharines superstar Tim Hicks and Lindsay Ell
Many local areas are filled with hometown pride as some of their own were nominated for the 2019 CCMA Awards. You can watch the ceremony on Global TV where it'll be broadcast live from Calgary, AB on Sept. 8 at 9 p.m.
Peter Walker, the director for Hamilton's CHKX-FM is nominated for Music Director of the Year.
Burlington's Tebey is one of three local acts vying for Album of the Year and Producer of the Year with his co-producer Danick Dupelle.
St. Catharines Country superstar Tim Hicks is also up for Album of the Year as well as Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and the Fan's Choice Award. His bandmate Rob Wells, also from St. Catharines, received a nod for Drummer of the Year.
Cambridge duo the Reklaws have four nods to their credit: Album of the Year, Group or Duo of the Year, Video of the Year and the Fan's Choice Award. Another Cambridge boy, Rich DaSilvawas nominated for Drummer of the Year.
Down Waterloo way, member of the Western Swing Authorityare getting a lot of recognition. Shane Guse is nominated for Specialty Instrument Player of the Year. Paul Chapmanis up for Guitarist of the Year and Jason Barry's Barrytone Studios is in the running for Recording Studio of the Year.

We are keeping our fingers crossed, hoping that some of the local nominees for the The 19th Annual Independent Music Awards will win a couple of the trophies! The ceremony's part of Canadian Music Week festivities and will take place May 11, 2019 at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto.
Hamilton has a number of artists in the game: Whitehorse (Album of the Year), Dundas rockers The Dirty Nil (Group of the Year), the Trews (Songwriter of the Year, Rock Artist or Group of the Year), Ellevator(Alternative Artist or Group of the Year)and Iskwē(Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year).
Local Country stars are in the spotlight thanks to the Country Music Association of Ontario AwardsNominations that were recently unveiled. The ceremony itself will be held in Ottawa on June 16, 2019. Hopefully a number of our area talent will bring home the hardware.
