Hamilton's The Vaudevillian Pack Tons of Energy and Spirit on New Album!

Hamilton/Kitchener group The Vaudevillian have a new lease on life thanks to their latest amazing album, Bringing Satan Down.  Not only is this their initial offering for Busted Flat Records - it's also the first as a trio.

The extra member hasn't dulled the edgy, pre-war Blues sound they're famous for.   As a matter of fact, their songs have more energy and spirit than before (which they weren't exactly lacking previously).  It's well-produced and recorded but still has and old-fashioned, raw vibe.

There are many ways to get your hands on this sweet album.  There's the Busted Flat Online Shop, Bandcamp and cdbaby.

Kitchener's Stony Lonesome Capture Dynamic Show on Newest Live Album

Kitchener country group, Stony Lonesome do an incredible job of capturing an impressive, dynamic live show on their latest album.   Live at the House of Miracles (courtesy of Busted Flat Records) is an amazing document of their no-nonsense, fun, unpredictable performances.

The gang runs through their compelling originals brimming with honky tonks and broken hearts.  They also throw in a couple of interesting covers: The jazz standard Sunny Side of the Street and Maybe Tomorrow (The Littlest Hobo home).  Stoney Lonesome pack the tunes with top-notch playing, including some amazing pedal steel work.

You can pick up a copy of the CD at their live shows or via the Busted Flat online shop.

Duane Rutter is rightfully one of the most respected singer/songwriters around.  Armed with an incredible backing band, he now has a reputation as one of the most rockin' Americana/Country acts in Canada as well.  You can hear this new, fuel-injected sound on his latest amazing CD, Crazy Things (released through Busted Flat Records).

Without sacrificing his usual beautifully crafted, rich songwork, Duane's souped up his tunes with infectious grooves and powerful guitars.  It's a perfect melding of lyricism and cool riffing.  A couple of graceful slower tracks show off the band's chops as well.

Joining him on his new quest are his current bandmates Andrew Aldridge (guitars/Producer), Carrie Ashworth (bass), Steve "Honeyboy" Wood (pedal steel), Nick Burson (drums), Lisa Winn (vocals) and JB Reed of Human Orchestra (vocals).  Guests on the top notch album include Mark Lalama and Garth Hudson of The Band (both on keys) as well as "Sister" Maud Hudson (vocals). Mixing is done by the legendary Nick Blagona.

So if you're looking for an album to that'll put a spring in your step, you can pick a copy up at any of Duane's live shows (including the upcoming CD Release at the Casbah on October 10, 2015).  CDs can be purchased at Encore Records in Kitchener as well.  It can also be downloaded using iTunes.

Kitchener's Cheryl Lescom Belts Out Wonderful, Rockin', Soulful Blues on '1953'

With her big, soulful voice, Kitchener Blueswoman, Cheryl Lescom and her band, the Tucson Choir Boys create killer tracks on their latest album, 1953 (released through Busted Flat Records).  This amazing music will grab a hold of you instantly.

Cheryl's voice can really boom when it has too but it also can move you with emotion as well.  The boys do a superb job of making some wonderful blues licks and dynamic sounds.  A couple of tunes will even transport you to the 50s.

The band also gets some help on the writing from labelmate, Lynn Jackson, who wrote two of the songs.

If you want some good time rockin's blues you can pick up the CD through her energetic live shows or via the Busted Flat Online shop.  It's available through iTunes as well.

Lucas Stagg Group Are All Fired Up on New Impressive Album!

Toronto's Lucas Stagg Group (the main man is from Cambridge though) are all fired up on Off We Go, their most recent album (offed through Busted Flat Records) .   There's a ton of controlled intensity here.  You can definitely feel a bit of a punk vibe on some tunes but it's backed up by melodic, virtuoso playing.

Lucas and the boys (bassist Danny Alac and drummer Cleave Anderson - formerly of Blue Rodeo) bring their impressive talents to quite a mix of music.  Along with the raw rockers, the group offer folky tracks, a touch of country, some jazzy spots, a little bit o' blues and much more.

You can pick the CD up at any of their electric live shows.  It can also be ordered via the Busted Flat online shop or downloaded through iTunes.

2013's Thanks to You (released under the name Lucas Stagg Band) has a bit more of a poppy feel but it's still packed with infectious rockers, rootsy tunes and more.

Hamilton's Alfie Smith and Nicole Christian Team Up For a Stunning Album

With Come On In My Kitchen, their first album as a duo, Hamilton couple Alfie Smith and Nicole Christian prove they mesh extremely well as a musical team.  This Busted Flat release is a must-have for any folk blues aficionados.

Alfie's gritty blues growl and Nicole's sweet voice give the disc a wonderful contrast, especially when the two sing in harmony. They even switch it up with Nicole adding an edge to her vocals on a few tracks and Alfie showing his softer side on others.  Of course, this is on top of the stunning guitar and flute work from the talented pair. The only other performer on the album is Nick Burson, who contributes some tasty percussion.

Listeners get the best of both worlds with this mix of classics (the title track, Cakewalk into Town, You Are My Sunchsine, Hound Dog, Iko Iko) and marvelous original songs.

You can pick up a physical CD at their outstanding live shows or through the Busted Flat website (it can be downloaded here too).  Downloads can also be purchased via cdbaby or iTunes.

Wonderful New CD from Kitchener's Shannon Lyon

With The Lights Behind, the wonderful new album from Kitchener's Shannon Lyon you'll get something old and something new.  This Busted Flat Records release features four brand new tracks and re-recordings of his earlier songs.  Either way, there's a ton of amazing music to be heard.

Call it Roots Country or Americana -  this CD has a sweet roughness to it both lyrically and musically.  Shannon's expressive voice will send chills down your spine.  The Lights Behind will definitely affect you emotionally.

He's enlisted the help of some amazing musicians such as Elly Kellner, Mike Roelofs, Kitchener's Steve Wood, Adam Warner, Alex McMaster, Jill Daley, and Hamilton's Rob Szabo, who produced the disc.

New Daddy Long Legs CD: The Devil's in the Details

With tons of Boogie Blues and hard drinkin' songs, the latest disc from Waterloo's Daddy Long Legs, Devil's in the Details (from Busted Flat Records) is the perfect musical party platter.

This is no-nonsense, rattle the roof, electric blues rock meant to get ya dancin'.  Blazing guitars, fiery harp playing and dynamic vocals are the order of the day here.

There are also a few wonderful detours such as the acoustic Dug My Own Grave, Lonely (a beautiful ballad) and a bit of cool zydeco on Borrowed Time.

This rockin' CD is available at their explosive live shows and through the Busted Flat website.  It can also be downloaded  through Busted Flat and iTunes.

New Lucas Stagg CD: Good Things

Earlier this year, Cambridge's Lucas Stagg released the aptly named CD, Good Things through Busted Flat Records.  Filled with stunning songwriting, the album is a triumph of modern melodic folk rock.

Lucas's expressive voice works extremely well with lively numbers such as She's a Ghost and What I Mean or delicate songs like Good Things and One in the Same.  Each and every track is accompanied by his band's five-star instrumental work.

Lucas is capably backed up by multi-instrumentalist Paul Macleod (ex-Skydiggers) with Jim Wolfe on keyboards and Adam Buschlen on Ukulele Bass.

This outstanding album can be bought at his live shows or though Busted Flat Records (CD or download).  It can also be downloaded through cdbaby or itunes.

New Alfie Smith CD: Sometimes the Rain

On his latest CD, Sometimes the Rain, accomplished Hamilton musician Alfie Smith turns his focus toward more of a singer/songwriter sound. The result is a wonderful, emotional experience.

Make no mistake though - every song on this album has a blues soul to it. Both Two-tone Snake and Only Sin are unmistakable bluesy.

On top of that, Alfie's trademark booming voice adds a lot of emotion to the exquistely written tunes. An incredible new arrangement of Paul Simon's Graceland also shows off his skills.

Sometimes the Rain is mainly a solo affair with just Alfie and a guitar. Amy King joins him on piano for three tracks.

The disc is availale at his live shows, online at Busted Flat Records, and at Pick and Sticks.

Below are a few videos of songs from the album.
