CONGRATS! Hamilton Musicians' Guild Award Lifetime Awards and 25 Year Pins

Hamilton's very own musicians' union honour their talented, long-time members at every meeting.  On May 9, 2016, there were quite a number of talented artists recognized.

The Hamilton Musicians' Guild handed out Lifetime Membership Awards to Ian Thomas, Rita Chiarelli, Daniel Lanois, bassist Neil Nickafor, Lynda Eady (Burlington Concert Band), Carmen Nemeth, Andrea Garofalo, John Bebbington, and James Heaslip.  At the Guild's December meeting, Frank Musico accepted a Lifetime Membership Award as well.

CONGRATS! 2015 Hamilton Music Award Winners

The 2015 Hamilton Music Awards ceremony on May 24, 2015 at Theatre Aquarius was amazing! Host Ian Thomas did a wonderful job and had everybody laughing.  There were heartfelt tributes to Tava Tunes, Brian Griffith and Cpl. Nathan Cirrilo, a visit from mayor Fred Eisenberger and a ton of amazing area music.

As always, the local scene was in the spotlight the whole show and the award winners were announced. Rockers the The Arkells and songstress Laura Cole took home three trophies each that night.  Blues veteran Harrison Kennedy also won a pair well-deserved awards.

CBC's Best Hamilton Song Contest Showcases the Hammer''s Greatest Tunes!

In honour of the Junos coming to the Hammer, CBC created an interesting battle of classic local songs.  After three rounds of public voting, it came down between Junkhouse's big hit Shine and Blues queen Rita Chiarelli's These Four Walls.  

Unfortunately, due to problems with the online poll, the the final round was cancelled.  Click here for more information.  The contest did shine a light on just how many classics have called Hamilton home.

Junkhouse defeated popster Jessy Lanza, punk stalwarts Forgotten Rebels and hip hop group Warsawpack.

Our condolences to his family and friends.  The Kitchener music scene has lost an important figure.

Amber McLean: "I am so deeply saddened. I have just learned of the loss of our wonderful and so genuine and kind Philip Bast. He was a friend and a fan but most important of all, he was a gentle, thoughtful and beautiful human being. Philip was a devoted supporter of the local KW music scene but his passion for the arts reached so many communities. I feel so much gratitude when I think of all he did for me, so generously, throughout my career. Rest well Philip. My heart is with you and your family."

Shane Guse (Western Swing Authority): Shocked and sad to hear about Philip Bast's passing. He was a real supporter of the arts in our community, a great guy and always eager to help. And that voice....you could never mistake that voice that started countless videos promoting the work of endless artists. Condolences to all his family and friends.

Brenda Lewis: This is such a shock and so heartbreaking. Deep gratitude to Philip for his unending support to those of us in the arts in the Waterloo region. I'll miss running into you with your trusty video cam at so many music events, too, since you retired.

Many Area Artists Win 2014 SOCAN Awards

During the 25th Anniversary SOCAN Awards, local musicians were well represented in the winners circle.  The kudos were handed out on June 16, 2014 in Toronto.

Hamilton music veteran Ian Thomas recieved the prestigious National Achivement Award. Burlington's Walk Off the Earth and St. Catharines country star Tim Hicks continued their winning ways by earning a Pop/Rock Music Award and a Country Award respectively. Local singer/songwriter Kathleen Edwards took home the Folk/Roots top prize. Congrats to everyone!

The 2013 Hamilton  Music Awards were handed out on Saturday, November 16 (Industry) and Sunday, November 17 (main).  As always, it was an incredible celebration of the best music this city has to offer.  There was amazing music throughout the Hammer!

The big winners were Harrison Kennedy, who took home four trophies as well as a lifetime achievement award and hard rock band Monster Truck, who won seven awards.
